Why We Built SlothLab Tools

When we started building SlothLab Tools, we noticed a frustrating pattern across the web: most online calculators either required account sign-ups to access full features, collected personal data for advertising purposes, or hid behind paywalls after a few uses. Health calculators asked for email addresses before showing BMI results. Financial planners required credit card information for basic compound interest calculations. Even simple tip calculators were cluttered with intrusive ads and tracking scripts. We believed there had to be a better way. As a team of software engineers and data scientists at Sloth Lab Inc., we set out to build a comprehensive suite of calculators that would be genuinely free, completely private, and scientifically accurate. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — your data never leaves your device, and we never set first-party cookies or require any form of registration. Our commitment to accuracy means every formula is sourced from peer-reviewed research and authoritative institutions. We use WHO standards for health metrics, World Bank data for purchasing power comparisons, the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for calorie estimation, and veterinary-science-based formulas for pet nutrition. Each tool includes transparent methodology sections so you can verify our calculations independently.

How We Ensure Accuracy

Every calculator on SlothLab Tools is built on established scientific formulas, peer-reviewed research, and authoritative data sources — not approximations or guesswork. Our health calculators use equations validated in clinical studies: the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for calorie estimation (validated as the most accurate BMR formula by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics), WHO BMI classifications used by healthcare providers worldwide, and the US Navy body fat method validated against hydrostatic weighing in peer-reviewed research. Our financial calculators implement standard formulas used by banks and financial institutions: the compound interest equation taught in university finance courses, loan amortization formulas identical to those used by mortgage lenders, and PPP conversion factors from the World Bank International Comparison Program. Our pet nutrition calculators use the Resting Energy Requirement formula from the National Research Council, the same formula veterinary nutritionists use in clinical practice. Transparency is central to our approach. Every tool includes a detailed Methodology section explaining the exact formulas used, their data sources, and their known limitations. We believe you should be able to verify our calculations independently — that is why we show our work. When formulas have known accuracy ranges or population-specific limitations, we disclose them. We regularly review our tools against updated research and data sources to ensure continued accuracy.
