About SlothLab Tools

Last updated: March 2026

Our Mission

SlothLab Tools was built with a simple belief: everyone deserves access to accurate, trustworthy calculators without compromising their privacy. In an era where most online tools require sign-ups, collect personal data, or hide essential features behind paywalls, we chose a different path. Our mission is to provide professional-grade calculation tools that are completely free, fully private, and scientifically grounded. We believe that financial planning, health monitoring, and technical analysis should not be gatekept — these are tools for informed decision-making that everyone should have access to, regardless of their budget or technical background.

Why We Built This

The idea for SlothLab Tools was born from a shared frustration among our team members. As software engineers and data scientists, we frequently needed quick calculations — estimating GPU VRAM for running LLMs, checking compound interest projections, or calculating calorie needs. Every time, we encountered the same problems: calculators that demanded email addresses, displayed intrusive pop-ups, or provided results based on outdated formulas without citing sources. We realized that building trustworthy, transparent calculator tools was both technically straightforward and badly needed. In late 2025, Sloth Lab Inc. began developing what would become SlothLab Tools — a privacy-first platform where every calculation runs in the user's browser, every formula is documented and cited, and every tool is available in multiple languages at no cost. Our guiding principles are simple: never collect user data, always cite our sources, keep tools free forever, and continuously improve based on user feedback and updated research.

What We Offer

SlothLab Tools currently provides 18 specialized calculators organized across six categories: Technology tools for AI developers including VRAM requirements, multi-model AI stack planning, and API cost comparison; Finance tools for compound interest, loan amortization, purchasing power comparison, FIRE planning, and tip calculation; Health calculators based on WHO and medical standards for BMI, body fat percentage, and daily calorie needs; Life utilities including a caffeine cutoff calculator, sleep cycle optimizer, and timezone converter; Pet care tools for calculating optimal feeding amounts for dogs and cats plus pet-to-human age conversion; and Education tools including a GPA calculator. Each tool includes educational content explaining the underlying formulas, methodology documentation, frequently asked questions, and the ability to share results via URL.

Our Team

SlothLab Tools is developed and maintained by a dedicated team at Sloth Lab Inc. Our team brings together expertise in software engineering, data science, user experience design, and technical writing. Our engineering team specializes in building performant web applications with a focus on privacy and accessibility. We use modern web technologies including Next.js, TypeScript, and client-side computation to ensure all calculations run locally in users' browsers. Our data science expertise ensures that every calculator is built on validated, peer-reviewed formulas. We regularly review our implementations against the latest research and update our tools when more accurate methods become available. Our technical writers create the educational content, methodology documentation, and in-depth guides that accompany each tool, making complex topics accessible to everyone.

Our Approach

Every calculator on SlothLab Tools is built on established, peer-reviewed formulas and authoritative data sources. Our BMI calculator uses WHO classification standards. Our calorie calculator implements the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, recognized as one of the most accurate basal metabolic rate formulas. Financial tools use standard amortization formulas and World Bank purchasing power parity data. All calculations execute entirely within your browser using client-side JavaScript — no server requests, no data storage, no cookies set by our site. We also support five languages (English, Korean, Spanish, French, and Portuguese) to serve a global audience, and every page includes Schema.org structured data for accurate search engine representation.

Our Standards

Accuracy and transparency are the foundations of everything we build. Here is how we maintain quality: Formula Verification: Every calculator undergoes a multi-step verification process. We cross-reference our implementations against published academic papers, official guidelines from health organizations, and established financial formulas. Regular Updates: We monitor updates to the data sources and formulas we use. When the World Bank updates PPP data, when new research improves calorie estimation methods, or when GPU specifications change, we update our tools accordingly. Transparent Methodology: Each tool page includes a detailed methodology section explaining exactly which formulas are used, their limitations, and links to source materials. Users should never have to wonder where a number comes from. Peer Review: Our team reviews every calculator implementation before release, checking both the mathematical accuracy and the clarity of the educational content.

Data Sources & References

We believe in full transparency about where our data comes from. Here are the primary sources behind our calculators: Health Tools: World Health Organization (WHO) BMI classification standards, Mifflin-St Jeor equation for basal metabolic rate (published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1990), US Navy circumference method for body fat estimation (Hodgdon & Beckett, 1984). Finance Tools: World Bank Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) conversion factors and International Comparison Program data, standard compound interest and loan amortization formulas, FIRE methodology based on the Trinity Study (Cooley, Hubbard & Walz, 1998) and the 4% safe withdrawal rate research. Pet Tools: Resting Energy Requirement (RER) formulas recommended by veterinary nutritionists, American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) guidelines, epigenetic aging research by Wang et al. (2020, Cell Systems) for pet age conversion. Tech Tools: Official GPU specifications from NVIDIA, AMD, and Apple, real-time API pricing data from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and other providers, model architecture specifications from published research papers. Life Tools: Caffeine metabolism research (half-life pharmacokinetics), sleep cycle science based on 90-minute NREM-REM cycles, IANA timezone database for timezone conversion.
